Greetings,

I must say (or write) that it has been quite some time that I've not been writing for the pleasure of my dearly, beloved silent readers and loyal followers.

So, here are some good and bad news to be shared. Firstly, I managed to make my way out of the horrible realms of engineering. I quit, and my current major is Industrial Management. Despite the years, money and sweat invested, wasted I felt no remorse as it was a very valuable experience, I must say. Earlier this month the house that I was renting for years was broken into, suffered major to minor losses. This incident was an eye-opener in a way, I was strangely calm and I'm not certain why was I even not angered, frustrated. I am glad that no one was harmed in the process of the break-in though. Enough of that and now on to the good news, If you noticed I got myself a domain name (and webhosting as well). What I have here now is just forwarding my blogspot to my domain name, I swear I have no idea but thanks to Google, I succeeded in doing so. Laugh out loud.

I intend to venture into the photography / video / design and etc. and I have brilliant ideas for the business. I hope to start by year end preferably before December. You may argue that this is not simple and not profitable but there are trials to everything and I wish to put myself to the test, even when I fail, it will be done gracefully and with style. Surely there are too many photographers out there in the wild, too many similar business ideas and approaches but what would separate the gentleman from the boys? Who will be David? Can I take this Goliath down? I have great faith in myself and so should you. Till then.

It's the 16th of December, roughly about a week or so to Christmas.

Unlike everyone else, I don't look forward to it or just any other festivals and celebrations, I am sometimes very selfish. I enjoy the days of my birth, which is of course, a significant course in every person's life. Other than that, it's just like any other day.

It's also almost the end of the glorious year of 2010, not so for mine, I hope it is for you, was it a satisfying year? I do not know, it probably was. But I must admit, I'm taking my chances very carefully and very recklessly. This is not your average post, I'm trying my best to pen down 2010 in this very post. I intended to inject some humour in it or make it a pleasant read.

Where do I start? I punched myself in the face once in awhile, I also struggle to find what is funny and what is not anymore. Met so many people along the road, made so many friends along the road, where at some point I think I hated most of them and also collected a few that I really adore and look up to. I think most people may have gone through such a phase. I think I may conclude that 2010 was not a bad year after all. I'm contented.

To whom it may concern, I'm showing a grand salutation of middle fingers directly on your faces. I will also pee on your faces. But in the spirit of forgiveness and for the sake of humanity, I will consider only a finger to your face and I promise I won't pee on your faces.

My point is, if you still have both your parents, your siblings, your relatives, your spouses, your girlfriends, your boyfriends, your teachers, your lecturers, the garbage collectors, your enemies, take some time and share some time with them, thank them, tell them that you really appreciate their sacrifices, contributions and patience, tell them you love them, because you only have one chance in one life.

Next year, I urge each and everyone to learn to be less miserable and less angry. Life is too short, before you know it, it will be too late to regret. Embrace humanity. Learn how to say "Please" learn how to give thanks, give out genuine smiles, be genuine, be yourselves. Eat clean, drink clean. Live long and prosper.

TOGT - The Occasional Gear Talk

This time around I'll discuss from upgrading your camera body, in this case;

While existing d90 users (like me) contemplates on upgrading to the well-argued d7000 (DX sensor - Cropped sensor). My opinions are as follows :

1. keep your d90, If you wish to shoot or only shoot stills. I personally find the d90 performs well under great pressure, not to mention I fell into a river with it, that time it was coupled with a 24 - 70 f2.8 (don't bother asking). But the body survived and to this very day i'm still happily shooting with it, not a single problem yet.

2. My domain is mainly gig and concert photography, I had used various lenses from the kit lens to the 50mm f1.4 to the 24 - 70 f2.8 and it really delivers, ISO 800 - 3200. Burst not fast enough? I think 4fps is more than enough.

3. For a polycarbonate body, it is quite robust and it fits my hand nicely, for the 720 video, please do ask yourselves, what would you do with the 1080? Alright, so you really wanna shoot videos and make mini films. Fine, but please do remember that shooting nice, pro-looking videos does not sorely relies on the body itself, It also means a new set of prime lens, a badass external mic, a badass video rig and of course this also means more 'investment' needed. And also, It's a cropped sensor, so to go as wide (for that film look) you would need a super wide prime lens (which are obviously, very very expensive).

4. the d7000 is definitely something, I dig the 100% VF area, the extra AF points, the magnesium-alloy body. This easily is a contender to the semi-pro d300s

5. Sometime Ken Rockwell speaks through his ass. Don't listen to him. the d90 will survive for the years to come, If you really want an upgrade, keep your money, treat yourself to a better glass. It will all come to sense later.

6. To my fellow d90 comrades, I do really hope you would justify your options thoroughly. If you've been stuck with an entry-level body and not sure what is worth upgrading, go ahead this is for you, and for those of you who wants to join the endeavor of digital photography, this is for you.

It sure feels so out of place after writing these. My opinions are meant to be heard as well. Have a nice day, Live long and prosper.

As I was browsing through the images I have shot for the past years made me ask myself, will these be stock-photography worthy? How would the public rate my images? What does it feels like to have people wishing to buy your images or prints? Where do I stand in this part of the world? Will people take me seriously since I will be shooting at my most basic gear? (Pun was fucking intended) Will I ever 'make it'?

I figured, I have to do this and a little bit of that, don't do this and don't do that, the definitive fuck-it moment.

So on a sunny Saturday afternoon, I've finally signed up on Shutterstock and Dreamstime I must say that this was rather impulsive and spur-of-the-moment shit, I must say.. I'm actually quite nervous for whatever reasons I may take a million years to know. Like I said, the definitive fuck-it moment.

Catching up with me, some things are better left unsaid but then.. I will be most likely to backpack next year for a span of 2 months at least. Looking for travel buddies, preferably a person who shares the same passion with me and most importantly, Relentless.

My instincts were always spot on these days, but back to that later, I promise.

"Tim, why do you even bother to shoot on film? EVERYONE is shooting digital though." True,the advent of digital photography really is something, convenience, image quality are unmatched (debatable though)and most importantly, cost. I am not everyone. The reason why I choose to shoot film was simple, because I can, because I wish to. I still actively shoot on digital as well but there's just something special about films, especially black and whites,the whole idea of it is just different and it has brought me satisfaction and it also broke my heart/head. One reason to shoot on film was also to remind myself of how to shoot and compose my images by putting and judging everything into account. In other words, I would THINK before I blindly shoot (I still do that!) and turn it into something habitual and of course destructive in so many ways. I personally think that shooting and developing my own films makes life worth living. Technically speaking, along the road you will have a clear idea on what photography may offer you. What is there to lose anyway?

"Tim, why don't you do weddings?" Alright, this is a classic rhetorical question. I have to admit that when it comes to big-one-off events like this, I suck so badly when it comes to shooting people and with my level of experience and knowledge, I shall leave this to the PROS and the ESTABLISHED (of course this one does not apply thoroughly, everyone has to start somewhere right?) because, say, you don't want to fuck a brother or a sister by documenting shitty pictures for their wedding right? So there you have it.

I hate to say these. I'm sorry.

Anyway, I'm going to share pictures shot on my Contax T2 + Kodak BW400CN. Not the best yet but have faith in me. I'm trying hard to impress myself and you.

Tri-X asa 400 + HC110, 7 minutes at 26ºC. Shot on Nikon FM paired with Nippon Kogaku's 50mm f2 and I think the camera's metering is pretty fucked as most of my shots on it is underexposed by a few stops.

I think my muse is nowhere to be found for the time being, its like me being a stranger to myself. I must admit that I have not been actively writing for the past few entries except for images that does not make sense to anyone else but me. I find it hard to digest a few things recently, which I believe if it is to be compiled it will complete a journal or a book with endless pages that will spread to the horizon, of course I exaggerated that last part. anyway, let's get to business.

I came out with a few genius master plan for the past 3 months of absent-ness, which I supposed it will be brilliant. To start off, I decided to spear-head a club for aspiring photographers and wannabe photographers alike. Notice the amount of people lugging their dslr's around their necks and made it an accessory? It's an eye-sore really. So my role is to start telling them to treat photography seriously and by seriously is not taking senget pictures of your friends in front of shopping malls, toilets, clubs and ah the fucking list will never end.

Last week, a dear friend and I thought it would be fantastic if we offer our service in writings and composition, of course it would come with a price, not to worry because I'm sure it will be priced pretty decent. He came out with this gem of an idea while we were in class and I guess his imagination went pretty wild and this idea was the product of it. It was also our business proposal (for one of our classes). The amount of cheers and oohs and ahhs it generated was quite overwhelming that the lecturer gave it a deep second thought. But then again, fuck that shit.

While I'm on this, I just realized that it's the fifth week of lecture. which means about 9 weeks to go before showdown. The world felt amazingly heavy and I will still go forth and will still kick ass.

(8 Feb) "This is officially the hottest venue we've ever played, I don't know whether it's a good thing or not" said the terribly sweaty and red Winston (frontman of Parkway Drive). I'm pretty damn sure that he was insulting rather than praising, but the crowd however cheered up after that statement. haha.

My lens was foggy all the way, giving me a hard time shooting, not to mention the blistering heat and the foreign sweat 'flying' around. Supporting acts including Dashown, Cassandra, Kids on the Move, Incarnation, Asthalin, Black Territory and Deadscore.

I'll be dreading on the upcoming gigs in MCPA, it's truly hell on earth (not a good thing haha).

Hello kids.

Have you heard about the recent bombardment and excessive military assault on Gaza? Oh sure yes you do.

So now I believe each and everyone of you are doing your little part in critically boycotting Israel's and USA's products and services. Kudos to you. I'm actually quite overwhelmed by this sudden boycotting frenzy that often leads to jeering eyes whenever we were to walk into either Starbucks or McDonald's or chugging a can of Coca-Cola or applying lotions or bathing with Johnson and Johnson's or simply owning a Nokia or by buying Intel driven PCs and laptops or by using Windows or Macintosh operating systems for our computers. Little did we know that our daily routines revolves around these labels and products and I think it's quite unrealistic to say if we were to boycott these labels and products thoroughly, let me clarify that I hate Israel for their senseless war and there is no way on earth that I'm (and will not) with them. Here's an example ;

Conversation A:

Encik X : Tim, kite nak makan kat mane ni?

Tim Hensem : McD sudah.

Encik X : Ko memang babi lah, ko memang jahil dan bangsat yang teramat. Ko sekutu Israel yer. lancau lu.

Tim Comel : *Muka merah malu, dan rasa sedikit bodoh* Eh sorry la, mamak jom.

But there's this one thing that bothers me most and this will probably slap you so fucking hard on the face. The 'NOW' boycotting frenzy that is ripping my balls of (for those who owns a Facebook profile, you have probably been invited by friends to join Anti-Israel, Boycott Israel and USA group or any of this kind). The fact that the war has been going on for decades and we only realized that we have been funding it for decades, too. Are we hypocrites? are we phonies? My point here is, Why is it only now the furor on boycotting Israel and USA is prominent? Or was it only me being ignorant? I find myself laughing now and then, of course not on the war victims. For now, the numbers of people patronizing Starbucks and McDonald's is declining. I hope it will remain until the ultimate truce is achieved between Israel and Palestine.

And oh, for the Arsenal fans, you guys are killing the Palestinians too (Chelsea FC is the way to go!)

p/s : today I was negative-mugged by a blind kid, he made me pay his KTM fare and requested rm20 for I don't know what, I was smart though. Total damage was rm11. Sometimes you get fucked too for being nice. Lesson learned!
